5 Easy Ways to Give That Change a Foster Child’s Life

by | May 28, 2025 | Blog

At Child Advocates of Contra Costa County, we believe every child in foster care deserves to feel supported, seen, and hopeful about the future. The good news? You can help make that happen.

Whether you give once, monthly, or through a creative route like donating stock or a gift card, every contribution helps us stand beside foster youth when they need us most.

Here are 5 simple (but powerful!) ways to support our mission—and make a lasting impact on a young life.

1. Double Your Impact with Employer Matching Gifts

Make your donation go twice as far—for free.

Many companies will match your gift dollar-for-dollar. Some even triple it! All it takes is a quick form or a few clicks through your HR portal.

Already donated? Check if your employer offers matching

2. Send a Gift Card, Spark a Smile

  • A $25 gift card might seem small—but to a child in foster care, it can feel huge.
  • A gift card says: You deserve something new. You get to choose. You matter.
  • We love Target, Walmart, Amazon, and Visa cards—anything kids and teens can use for clothes, books, or a treat.

3. Give Monthly, Create Ongoing Change

Want to make an impact without thinking twice? Monthly giving is the way to go.

A small gift each month = big results all year.

  • $10/month helps a child receive tutoring support
  • $25/month helps us train and support a CASA volunteer
  • $50/month helps fund a backpack, books, and school supplies

You choose the amount. We make it count.

4. Give Big Without Writing a Check

You don’t have to give cash to make a huge difference.

Got an old car? Stocks sitting in an account? Thinking about your legacy?

We accept:

  • Vehicle donations (running or not! We can pick up your car): Vehicle Donation
  • Stock gifts (hello, tax savings!): Stock Donation
  • Planned gifts in your will or trust:

These gifts often benefit you as much as they help us.

5. Use Your IRA or Donor-Advised Fund for Good

If you’re over 70½, you can donate directly from your IRA—and it may reduce your taxable income. It’s called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). Charitable Donation from Your IRA

Have a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)? You can recommend a grant to Child Advocates anytime—fast, flexible, and impactful. DAF Donations
